A safety stand down for the infrastructure sector launched last year is to be extended to cover the whole of the construction sector in 2018.
The “Stop. Make A Change” safety stand-down was supported by more than 60,000 workers on more than 1000 sites last April.
Sites, offices and production facilities all stopped work to allow for “focussed discussions” on four key issues – mental health, fatigue, plant safety and respiratory health.
In total, more than 50 clients, contractors and suppliers took part, with many making specific commitments around the priority areas.
This year, the campaign is being extended to all types of construction sites, including new builds, refurbishment and fit-outs, and the focus has narrowed to just two issues – mental wellbeing and plant safety.
